Employee Highlight: April Shannon 20 Years At City of Faith

City of Faith is proud to celebrate April Shannon, Case Manager, for 20 years of dedicated service. What April enjoys most about her role is encouraging residents to accomplish their goals, reunite with their families, and build better lives. She finds deep fulfillment in watching individuals overcome difficult seasons and move forward to experience success and happiness.

April’s journey to City of Faith feels like both happenstance and divine timing. As a single mother with a degree in psychology, she wasn’t sure where her career path would lead. Through a mutual connection, her background came to the attention of Allen Winkler, and Terry Williams gave her the opportunity to gain experience—starting in security before moving into assistant case management and eventually becoming a case manager. Two decades later, April remains grateful for the chance she was given and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.

April says the residents who truly commit to change and work hard to rebuild their lives inspire her to keep coming back each day. Outside of work, her family is her greatest joy. She and her husband spend most weekends cheering on their children at baseball fields or basketball courts, depending on the season.

One of April’s favorite movies is Pollyanna, particularly the lesson of “The Glad Game,” which encourages finding the good even when life is difficult. She also lives by the verse Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for man.” Throughout her career, April has been influenced by mentors such as Daryl Bailey, Terry Williams, and Ayonna Applegate, whose leadership, fairness, and strength helped shape her approach to the work. Her advice to anyone starting in this field is simple but powerful: learn to listen first.
